Lady Gaga announced the dates and venues for the summer leg of her continually expanding Monster Ball tour today (Mar. 15), which will see the pop star headlining arenas throughout North America for the first time. <![CDATA[Simon and Garfunkle Plot More U.S. Concert Dates]]> 39964 Thu, 04 Mar 2010 13:50:05 -0700 I ran across this late this afternoon from Rollingstone.com. We'll be hearing a track from Simon and Garfunkle on The Archive today at 4:20....

It appears as though the New Orleans Jazz Fest won’t be Simon & Garfunkel’s “only” U.S. appearance of 2010: Both Minnesota’s Star Tribune and North Dakota’s Grand Forks Herald report that the duo will perform at Fargo’s Fargodome on May 7th and the Twin Cities’ Xcel Energy Centre on May 8th in what appears to be the first dates of a possible U.S. tour. As Rolling Stone previously reported, prior to both those shows, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame pair will perform at the New Orleans Jazz Fest on April 24th. (A rep for Jazz Fest tells RS their press release touting the show as the pair’s sole U.S. gig was accurate when it was issued in January.)

The sporadically updated Simon & Garfunkel official Website has not yet confirmed the two new dates, but Ticketmaster postings reveal that tickets for the shows go on sale March 13th, so the shows appear to be legit. (That is unless it’s that other Paul Simon who’s been making the rounds.) According to the Winnpeg Free Press, Simon & Garfunkel will also play their first ever show in that Canadian city on May 5th. Previously, the pair performed at the Rock Hall 25th Anniversary concerts at Madison Square Garden.

<![CDATA[Carly Simon Names Who's 'So Vain']]> 39193 Fri, 26 Feb 2010 11:11:24 -0700 Finally after all these years Carly names the "You're" in her song "You're So Vain" ...it's all here in this tid bit from Starpulse.com......

February 26th, 2010 9:00am EST Post a comment Add to My News | More Carly Simon has ended nearly 40 years of speculation by finally naming the man who inspired her hit You're So Vain - her target was gay record label boss David Geffen. The song, which catapulted the singer to fame in 1972, was rumored to be about one of her ex-boyfriends, which include Hollywood legend Warren Beatty and rocker Mick Jagger, but she has persistently refused to name the man behind the track. However, Simon has now revealed who was so vain by giving fans a cryptic clue in an acoustic version of the song, which features on her upcoming album Never Been Gone. She tells Uncut magazine, "You know what; I'm just going to tell you this. The answer is on the new version of You're So Vain, on my new record Never Been Gone. There's a little whisper and it's the answer to the puzzle." The singer whispers Geffen's name backwards in the track, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper. Geffen ran Simon's Elektra record label at the time of the song's release and instead of being about a failed relationship; the lyrics are now thought to hint at the singer's lingering resentment after Geffen allegedly put more effort into promoting rival star Joni Mitchell.

<![CDATA[Senator Mellencamp?]]> 37981 Thu, 18 Feb 2010 11:08:04 -0700 Grassroots Campaign Urges Rocker to Run

2/18/10, 12:30 pm EST From Rollingstone.com.

John Mellencamp’s son has already hit Facebook to persuade his father to quit smoking, and now a new grassroots campaign has sprung up to convince the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer to run for Senate, Mediaite reports. Following the resignation of Indiana Democratic Senator Evan Bayh, the “Draft John Mellencamp for Senate!” page started up to convince Mellencamp to run for the open seat. Over 1,500 users have joined the campaign with the hopes that Mellencamp can secure the 4,500 signatures necessary to stage a run for Senate candidacy.

So far, the campaign is entirely grassroots, as Mellencamp has made no mention of embarking in a political career. However, even CBS News is lobbying for Mellencamp to make a run for Bayh’s seat, saying his connection to the plight of the working class in his native Indiana makes him an ideal candidate despite his lack of political experience. Mellencamp came out in support of President Barack Obama during the 2008 Presidential election with radio ads, complained when John McCain used “Pink Houses” at rallies and just last week performed at the White House’s tribute to the music of the civil rights movement.

The Facebook campaign also cites Mellencamp’s activism with groups like Farm Aid as cred to explore a senatorial run. Given his fame and political beliefs, CBS News argues that Mellencamp could emerge as the Democratic favorite in the upcoming election, if he chooses to run. So will we soon be referring to the rocker as Senator Mellencamp? Keep it tuned to Rolling Stone as this story and grassroots campaign gains more steam.

<![CDATA[Abby Road Studios Up For Sale]]> 37673 Tue, 16 Feb 2010 10:58:53 -0700 A piece of Music history is up for sale. I'm so happy to have been able to visit Abby Road Studios in the early 90's. Inside, you can feel the music history that's been made there. Imagine the stories if those walls could only talk. Billboard.com has the details of the sale in the story below. I just hope new owner(s), will keep it the icon of music history its become.

Abbey Road, the iconic London recording studios, has been put on the market by EMI, according to the Financial Times.

EMI declined to comment to Billboard on the prospective sale of the studios, immortalized by the 1969 Beatles album of the same name. But the FT today (Feb. 16) reported that five people familiar with the situation said the major had been courting bidders for the studios at 3 Abbey Road in north London.

The FT said the sale could raise tens of millions. That might very slightly ease EMI's debt burden but it seems unlikely that funds would be available by June 2010, to assist in Terra Firma's covenant tests with Citigroup this year when the private equity owner expects to inject up to £120 million ($188 million).

The Abbey Road brand name would be a key part of any sale, if EMI wants to raise serious money. EMI and Abbey Road is about to launch a branded product range, beginning with clothing, bags and stationery. Abbey Road Live was launched last year that provides live recordings at concerts.

EMI bought the property in 1929 and converted it into recording studios. Sir Edward Elgar recorded "Land of Hope and Glory" with the London Symphony Orchestra in studio one in 1931, and the Beatles later recorded the majority of their songs there.

Pink Floyd recorded "Dark Side Of The Moon" at Abbey Road and, although it is too expensive for many artists today, the studio is able to accommodate orchestras. It has been used for scores to Hollywood films such as the "Lord Of The Rings" and "Harry Potter" franchises.

<![CDATA[2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival Line-up]]> 36848 Wed, 10 Feb 2010 11:03:10 -0700 This year's Crossroads Festival has me thinking ROAD TRIP!! Check out this year's line up in the story below from Billboard.com.

The Allman Brothers Band, ZZ Top, Jeff Beck, Steve Winwood, John Mayer, B.B. King and Sheryl Crow will join Eric Clapton at his third Crossroads Guitar Festival, which will take place June 26 at Toyota Park in Chicago -- where Clapton also held the 2007 event.

The day-long festival will feature 26 axe-wielding acts in total, also including Robert Cray, Earl Klugh, Robert Randolph, Joe Bonamassa, Sonny Landreth, Keb' Mo', Albert Lee, Bert Jansch, David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos, Clapton Band member Doyle Bramhall II, Gary Clark Jr., Hubert Sumlin, James Burton, Jimmie Vaughan, Joao Gilberto and Pino Daniele. Proceeds will once again benefit the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, an addiction treatment and education facility founded by Clapton. Tickets are $100 and go on sale at 11 a.m. EST Feb. 20, at the box office and via Ticketmaster.

Clapton launched the Crossroads Festival fundraiser in 2004 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Both of the previous festivals have been documented on DVDs; the 2007 edition was also edited into a two-hour special for PBS' "Great Performances" series.

"It's an amazing event," Derek Trucks, who played the 2007 festival as a member of Clapton's band and with his own group, told Billboard.com. "To be in the midst of all that talent and all that great playing and music was just..unreal. It's like a master class in guitar up there."

Beck added that "it was as much fun to sit back and listen to everyone else play as it was to play myself. It really was a great day." And Gill noted that the he was happy to see country get to be part of the festival alongside blues and rock; "I think that really speaks to (Clapton's) appreciation for guitar playing and players in general. He's very open and generous."

It's not yet known who Clapton will play with that day. The 2007 festival was the catalyst for subsequent dates with his Blind Faith bandmate Winwood, while Clapton and Beck will be playing several shows together this year. Beck, Winwood, Mayer, Gill, Crow, Guy, Landreth, Bramhall, Trucks, Randolph, Cray, Sumlin, King, Mayer, Lee and Los Lobos are all returnees from the 2007 show.

Updates will appear at the festival web site, www.crossroadsguitarfestival.com.

Men at work lose in court and it's going to cost the band big $$'s. Details below from Starpulse.com.

Australian rockers Men At Work are facing hefty legal bills after a judge ruled they illegally used a popular children's tune in their 1980s hit Down Under. Bosses at Larrikin music publishers in Sydney filed suit, claiming the flute solo on the track sampled parts of the Kookaburra Sits In The Old Gum Tree, a song written by an Australian music teacher for the Girl Guides in 1934.

Men At Work's record labels, EMI and Sony BMG, denied the claim but a Federal Court in Sydney ruled against them - ordering the companies to pay compensation, which could amount to up to 60 per cent of the song's income.

Adam Simpson, the attorney representing Larrikin, says, "It's a big win for the underdog. Obviously the more (compensation) the better, but it depends. I mean, anything from what we've claimed, which is between 40 and 60 per cent, and what they suggest, which is considerably less."

Costs will be decided at another court hearing later this month.

Down Under was released in 1983 and later used at the closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

<![CDATA[Aerosmith: The Gloves Come Off...]]> 35647 Mon, 01 Feb 2010 12:24:19 -0700 I had a feeling it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. Check out the latest on the Aerosmith saga in this article from blabbermouth.net

Gary Graff of Billboard.com reports that Steven Tyler's Los Angeles-based attorney, Skip Miller, fired off a letter to AEROSMITH manager Howard Kaufman last week requesting that AEROSMITH's management "immediately cease and desist from engaging in acts and conduct to the harm and detriment of your own client, AEROSMITH, and our client who is one of its members." Miller subsequently told Billboard.com that on behalf of Tyler he's called a meeting of AEROSMITH's "shareholders" on Feb. 9 to discuss the band's future, including recording a new album and touring this year of Europe and South America. The four-page letter also states that "we reserve all of our legal rights and remedies in this matter, including, without limitation, pursuing legal action for damages and other appropriate relief."

<![CDATA[Billy Idol In Aerosmith?]]> 35298 Fri, 29 Jan 2010 11:35:11 -0700 Ready for this one? A story out today from starpulse.com says that Joe Perry is considering Billy Idol as a replacement for Steven Tyler in the band. Check out the story below..

Veteran rocker Billy Idol has become the latest big name rumored to be in the running to replace Steven Tyler as frontman of Aerosmith. The band revealed they will be hosting auditions to find a new member while Tyler takes a hiatus, with guitarist Joe Perry insisting the star won't be ready to tour with them until he recovers from a recent stint in rehab and a series of operations.

Lenny Kravitz was the first singer linked to the role, but admitted he would never take over from Tyler, while reports have also suggested former Queen star Paul Rodgers.

Now Idol is rumored to be in contention, with Classic Rock magazine reporting he was due to meet with the musicians but pulled out after falling sick.

A source tells the publication, "Joe said he wanted to talk to Billy about joining Aerosmith, because the band were having problems with Steven. As far as I know Idol did not show up due to having a cold."

Perry recently admitted they have already talked to a number of singers about replacing Tyler, but refused to divulge any names. He said, "(There's) a few people we've talked to, and we'll see how it goes... As far as auditions go, we'll probably just sit around and have a couple of drinks and see if we get along - because we're already gonna know that they can sing."

<![CDATA[Scorpions to break up after two year Tour and new Disc.]]> 34770 Mon, 25 Jan 2010 12:30:37 -0700

This article is from Starpulse.com.

Legendary German rockers Scorpions are splitting up after 40 years. The Wind of Change hit-makers announced on their website that they have decided to walk away from the music industry while they are "on a high note."

However, fans of the band will get their chance to say goodbye - the rockers are embarking on a two-year farewell tour before hanging up their leather jackets.

A statement on the band's website reads, "It was always our pleasure, our purpose in life, our passion and we were fortunate enough to make music for you - whether it was live on stage or in the studio, creating new songs. While we were working on our album these past few months, we could literally feel how powerful and creative our work was - and how much fun we were still having, in the process. But there was also something else. We want to end the Scorpion's extraordinary career on a high note. We are extremely grateful for the fact that we still have the same passion for music we've always had since the beginning."

"This is why, especially now, we agree we have reached the end of the road. We finish our career with an album we consider to be one of the best we have ever recorded and with a tour that will start in our home country Germany and take us to five different continents over the next few years. We want you, our fans, to be the first to know about this. Thank you for your never-ending support throughout the years!"

Scorpions were formed by Rudolf Schenker in Hanover, Germany in 1965, gaining a huge following when he was joined by his younger brother Michael and singer Klaus Meine in 1969. The band has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide.
