First we didn’t get Z.Z.Top on the Aerosmith Tour, but Three Doors Down as an opener is cool, but they’re no ZZ for sure! Now just days before the tour opens here we find out about this development. I just wonder why they waited so long to tell us? Do you think the story might have affected ticket sales? Just wondering…?

Story from Rollingstone.com.

Just two days before Aerosmith launch their summer tour, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band revealed in a statement that guitarist Brad Whitford will be missing the opening stretch of dates due to a medical problem; he will be recuperating from an unspecified surgery. However, the show must go on, and Whitford’s temporary replacement will be guitarist Bobby Schneck, who previously performed with Weezer, Green Day and Slash. You can bet Schneck has had Aerosmith’s Toys in the Attic on constant rotation the past few days, as the group recently revealed that they would play their classic 1975 album in its entirety during the tour.

Whitford’s absence continues a string of health-related bad luck for the band. Plans to record a new Aerosmith album prior to their summer jaunt with ZZ Top were delayed after guitarist Joe Perry required knee surgery. In the past three years, singer Steven Tyler has gone under the knife for both throat and foot surgery. While today’s press release made no mention of how long Whitford would be sidelined, it did stress that he’d only miss a part of the tour.
