You may not like to admit it, but you like the Carpenters.  They were so huge in the 70's that you know you were a fan, even though it may not be cool to show it today.  I'm sure the Carpenters had their share of groupies, too.  In fact, they performed a song about a groupie, Superstar, from 1971.

Superstar was written by Leon Russell, but Richard Carpenter rewrote a portion of the lyrics in the second verse because he thought the original might be too risque & not fit the Carpenters' image.  The Carpenters' version of the lyric, "And I can hardly wait to be with you again" was originally written "And I can hardly wait to SLEEP with you again."

I know, it seems so innocent by today's standards, but back then the Carpenters were squeaky clean.

Another lesson in Simon's School of Rock is tomorrow at 8pm on 106.5 the Arch.
