Yes, it's Earth Day 2009, but I'm already sick of it.  Shouldn't every day be Earth Day?

To buck the trend, tonight we're discussing divorce in Simon's School of Rock.

At their heydey, ABBA was made up of two married couples, Bjorn/Agnetha & Benny/Frida.  Unfortunately, as what usually seems to happen to superstar couples, the marriages turned to divorce.  In the case of Bjorn Ulvaeus, he turned his sorrow toward songwriting.

Bjorn wrote The Winner Takes It All after separating from Agnetha.  The song is about a divorce where one person doesn't want to separate & clings desperately to the marriage (who do you want to guess was the clinger?).  Bjorn has said that while he usually didn't use drugs or alcohol while writing, he had a bottle of brandy next to him while writing the lyrics for this song. It was very personal to him.

So, if you're hurting from a breakup right now, this one is for you.

Tune into another lesson in Simon's School of Rock, weeknights at 8 on 106.5 the Arch.
