In tonight's lesson on Simon's School of Rock, we cover the 2003 Album of the Year, which almost wasn't.

Coldplay's Chris Martin came up with the lyrics & piano riff for Clocks shortly before the band released the album, A Rush of Blood to the Head.  Since the album release was imminent, the band put it aside & planned to work on it for their next album (which would have been X&Y).  A friend of Chris's loved the demo so much, though, he encouraged him to use it on the new album, especially since the song deals with the importance of time.  Clocks was a massive hit & catapulted Coldplay into US superstardom.

Tune in for another lesson in Simon's School of Rock, weeknights at 8 on 106.5 the Arch.
