Peter Tork has been diagnosed with an unusual form of of cancer: Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma.  This attacks the salivary glands usually, but in Tork's case it has attacked his tongue (sounds reminiscent of what Eddie Van Halen had). 

The good news is that it's a slow moving cancer & was found early in Tork's case.  So, a good prognosis is expected.
