Joaquin Phoenix… What a self-important jerk…
If you haven't already seen his train wreck of an interview on Letterman, click the video tab above to watch it now. I actually think it'd be hysterically funny if it didn't make me so uncomfortable!
So, he has his final movie out this week... "Two Lovers", with Gwyneth Paltrow, and I understand how these press junkets work. He's probably contractually obligated to promote the movie by going on shows like Late Night, so he was fulfilling his obligation by just "being" there. Ugh, I was so disgusted by his behavior, and I know he won’t care, but I will not see this movie, and here’s why… its not the ridiculous Unibomber beard, or the fact that he couldn’t be bothered to brush the birds nest out of his hair… no, that’s fine… it’s that he couldn’t muster enough energy to be even moderately interesting for 10 minutes… He couldn't even pretend to care for ten-freaking-minutes! I think about all of the other people, working people, who worked hard on that movie, who depend on spoiled-baby movie stars, like him, to promote their work! Those are the people I feel for!
Also, as someone who has been in the position to interview people, I can tell you there’s nothing more painful than pulling teeth out of some jerk who can’t be bothered to give you more than one syllable at a time… I say Letterman gave him exactly what he deserved! AND, amazingly, he had the nerve to be shocked that Dave was mocking him… he seemed genuinely surprised! Unbelievable!
Make sure you watch all the way through... The best part is near the end, when "Jerk-quin" sticks his chewing gum underneath Letterman's desk!
... Can't wait for the rap album to come out!
