This band’s roots began in Kansas City, Missouri in 1992, but their first major label release didn’t come until 9 years later. A copy of their demo landed in the hands of Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, who went on to sign them to his record label and produce the band’s first record and also directed the video for tonight’s song.
Lead singer Wes Scantlin wrote this about his desire to be a good dad and hang with his kid and says the song also touches on the trauma everyone goes through during a divorce, which these days many can relate to. Scantlin and his wife had separated and she wasn’t too thrilled when she heard about the song. He says this song actually helped bring some issues into the open and eventually improved their relationship.
This probably the best known song for tonight’s School of Rock artist, reaching the #1 spot on the Billboard Mainstream Rock and Modern Rock charts. That soon propelled the single to mainstream success, reaching the #5 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
