DAVE GROHL set a new record on Saturday Night Live this weekend when he appeared with his new band THEM CROOKED VULTURES: he is now the musical guest that has appeared on the show more than any other!
HUH?
Dave Grohl is certainly a very famous rock star, but he's not exactly a household name. He was the drummer for NIRVANA until the death of Kurt Cobain put that to an early end. He formed his own band - FOO FIGHTERS and has had big success with that, and he's done several other side projects as well as serving as fill-in drummer for other groups when needed.
But how did Grohl surpass the number of appearances by other frequently invited musical guests...people like Paul Simon or Tom Petty?
Dave is one of the most popular people in the music industry - he's a really great guy with an easygoing, fun personality. He gets asked to sit in a lot with other groups, and that's how he compiled his record TEN appearances on SNL...one more than runner-up Paul Simon.
Grohl has appeared with his band Foo Fighters five times (the SNL record for appearances by a group), twice with Nirvana, and once each as drummer with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Tenacious D, and Them Crooked Vultures, which features Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones on bass guitar!
