Today’s Archive celebrates the birthday of Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, who turns 66 today. He’s the only real original member of Pink Floyd still with the group – He was a founding member in 1964 and was in the band before the other surviving members David Gilmour or Roger Waters joined!
A Nick Mason vocal is very rare – he did the single spoken line in ONE OF THESE DAYS and it’s also his voice you hear in the chatter during LEARNING TO FLY – that was an actual recording of Nick talking to controllers during his first solo airplane flight as he qualified for his pilot’s license.
I picked “TIME” for today’s Archive since it showcases Nick’s drum and percussion skills, and is about as close to a drum solo as you can get in the Floyd Void!!
