I thought that since it's Christmas Eve, we should have something spiritual for SCHOOL OF ROCK, and why not make it something from a local boy done good? Michael McDonald was born in St. Louis - he'll be 58 this coming February 12th. He grew up in Ferguson and went to McCluer High School and while a teenager, began playing in various groups and was discovered in a band called "Blue" in 1970, prompting his move to LA, where he had success in Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers and as a solo star.
Tonight's song is a duet he did with James Ingram singing the lead that won them the 1985 Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal called YAH MO B THERE. One meaning of the title is that it's a heavily contracted version of the phrase "Yes, I'm Going To Be There" (commonly used in the South), but really seems to be closer the phrase "God Will Be There" and you'll hear lyrics that support that.
