The lyrics of this song are about being devoted to someone, wanting to do anything for them - writing a song for them, swimming across the sea for them and so on. It doesn’t have to be a romantic devotion, but someone that you look up to and would do anything for.
The title of the song is actually a color. When asked why they chose this particular color, the writer and lead singer said, "It was simply because that word sounded nice, it just seemed to fit, no other reason. None of the other colors would have sounded right!"
When performing this song, the band used to change the song's melody. However, R.E.M's Michael Stipe advised against it: "Stop doing that. People want to hear the songs the way they know them." They followed his advice. Now when you see Coldplay performing “Yellow”, they sing it as it was written.
- It rocks!
- Its just stupid.
- Its SPAM.
- Its offensive.
- Nevermind.
