School of Rock - Friday 10/30 - The Smashing Pumpkins / Bullet With Butterfly Wings

Most people incorrectly assume this band named themselves after the favorite Halloween prank of teens, pumpkin smashing.  But lead singer Billy Corgan has said the word smashing was meant in a complimentary sense as in “Ahh!  Aren’t they smashing?”  After the band became famous, however, Billy realized that fans were bringing pumpkins to shows and smashing them everywhere.  This lead Billy to add 'The' to the band name so that the word 'Smashing' would be read like the British adjective, as he intended it. 

By playing this band I am in NO WAY condoning the smashing of pumpkins in the next couple of days…
