Cheap Trick recently brought the Beatles “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” to the stage! They performed it in its entirety at the Las Vegas Hilton during a string of shows last month. Here’s the review:
Roger Daltrey of The Who will go out on a solo tour beginning next week, in Vancouver. He’s calling the tour “Use It Or Lose It” and he’ll be utilizing the guitar skillz of Pete Townshend’s brother Simon. Daltrey has said that this tour is his way of preparing for a Who tour next year, and that he’ll mix the band’s classics in with his own material.
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers will be releasing a new set of their live material, and you can get it in the 4CD or “deluxe” 5CD package. Simply called “The Live Anthology”, it will feature uncut and unedited live performance with no overdubs. There is not yet a release date.
The new KISS album “Sonic Boom” is in stores this coming Tuesday (10/6).
Janet Jackson has released the first single from her upcoming album on her official website. “Make Me” sample her brother Michael’s ’79 hit “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough”.
The lawsuit between Joe Satriani and Coldplay has apparently been settled out of court, and the terms have not been released. Satriani had filed suit against the band late last year, claiming that their song ”Viva La Vida” plagiarized a song he wrote four years earlier called “If I Could Fly”. Following the hard work he put into Farm Aid this year, Neil Young next concentrates on his annual Bridge School benefit in the San Francisco area’s Shoreline Amphitheatre, taking place October 24th & 25th. Two of Neil and Pegi Young’s children have cerebral palsy and a third has epilepsy and they have put on this event for many years to raise money and awareness for the Bridge school’s educational efforts for children with severe physical and speech impairments. This year’s lineup includes: No Doubt, Jimmy Buffett, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Sheryl Crow.
Eagles bassist Timothy B. Schmidt will release his first solo album in eight years – “Expando” will be out on October 20th.
At this year’s Emmy Awards, it was the first year that hosts on NBC’s Saturday Night live were eligible to win the award for “Guest Actor in A Comedy”. Nominees included Alan Alda, Beau Bridges, Steve Martin and Jon Hamm for roles in regular sitcoms, but it was Justin Timberlake who was the surprise win for his appearance on SNL in May.
ZZ Top’s new in-concert DVD is called “Double Down” and will be released on October 20th.
CHRISTMAS ALBUMS!! New holiday releases this season will come from two extremes in the musical universe: Judas Priest singer Rob Halford will release “Halford III: Winter Songs” with refashioned versions of classics and his own compositions. Bob Dylan will also release a holiday album called “Christmas in The Heart” on October 13th
Heart is putting some new stuff out…sort of: Ann Wilson's children's book, Dog & Butterfly, and Nancy's lullabies album, Baby Guitars, will be released Tuesday October 6th. Both releases are part of the 30th anniversary celebration of Heart's Dog & Butterfly, and a new version of the song recorded by the Wilson sisters will be available as a free download with the book's purchase, exclusively at Amazon.com.
