Cliff Richard is one of the most successful recording artists ever in England. He was THE pop star in the years before The Beatles broke big, and he’s right behind them and Elvis Presley, sitting at #3 on the list of most charted singles. And along with Elvis, he’s got the distinction of being the only other act to have hits in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s! He has sold over 250 million records, but not had very much success in the U.S.
“Devil Woman” did well in 1976, and he had a duet with Olivia Newton John in 1980 called “Suddenly” from the Xanadu soundtrack. But it was this statistic about today’s archive song that got my attention: It was the sixth video to be played on MTV's first day on August 1, 1981 – WE DON’T TALK ANYMORE.
And just because you want to know…here are the first FIVE videos that aired on MTV the day it started:
1. Video Killed The Radio Star by The Buggles
2. You Better Run by Pat Benatar
3. She Won’t Dance With Me by Rod Stewart – (MTV’s 1st F-Bomb!)
4. You Better You Bet by The Who
5. Little Suzi’s On The Up by Ph.D.
What do you think?
