Your 15 minutes of fame is actually 29 years long and going strong!
When it was released in 1980, the movie "Fame" opened to modest expectations and became a big hit, spawning the song of the same name (which went to #4) and the performing career of Irene Cara. Even more impressive, the movie led to a successful TV series (which started on NBC in 1982 and ran in syndication until 1987), reality show and Broadway musical. The score of the film won the Academy Award for Best Original Score.
Now, after almost three decades, a remake is about to be released. "Fame" will premiere in theatres on September 25th and this time, instead of having a cast of complete unknowns, there will be some real star power to this production! Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullaly, Bebe Neuwirth and Charles S. Dutton are all part of the production, as is Debbie Allen who appeared in the original, and for this version, plays the principal of the school.
Take a look at the background of the story here, info on the 1980 film and the trailer for the 2009 version through the film's official site here. If this 15 minutes of fame stretches another 29 years, we'll be looking for the release of Fame III in 2038!
