SCROLL DOWN for JAY's BIO -

I was born in St. Louis and grew up here, Minneapolis and San Jose, California...a multi-city childhood that prepared me well for the rock band-style, gypsy touring life that is a career in radio.

It's been a blast seeing America by working and living in all quadrants of the USA - I've been to 46 of our states and seen a lot of our amazing country, living and working in places like San Jose/San Francisco, Minneapolis, Seattle, Milwaukee, Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Springfield, IL, Dallas and Charleston, SC. I previously worked in St. Louis radio from 1995-97 when KSD was classic rock - (I think they play Polkas of the Antarctic now).

I came back to StL for good in 2006 to take care of family matters and have been with THE ARCH since June of 2007. It is the most perfect music station I have ever worked for, allowing me to indulge my rawk side as much as my love for pop music. It's my passion to bring all kinds of music to you and to dig around for the fun facts and stories behind the tunes and the people who make them.

I'm really lucky to be on TEAM ARCH, and I really appreciate that YOU listen. Thanks!

SCHOOL OF ROCK - FRIDAY 9/4: Cannibalism songs

I'm not quite sure why I picked "cannibalism" as the subject for tonight's school of rock, but I guess it's because I saw "The Silence of The Lambs" again not long ago and I started thinking about other movies that use the phenomenon as part of the plot...."The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" and "Soylent Green" came to mind right away.

So naturally, I started thinking about HIT songs that deal with the subject - and I could only think of two or three:  The MTV hit from 1983 by called I EAT CANNIBALS by Total Coelo...maybe FLESH FOR FANTASY by Billy Idol and tonight's School of Rock feature:  1971's TIMOTHY by The Buoys.  It's the simple story of a mine collapse where three guys go in and two come out.  Even though it was banned by many stations, it still made it to #17.

The other interesting thing about this song is who wrote it - Rupert Holmes, best known for his massive hit ESCAPE, THE PINA COLADA SONG, wrote this in his early days as a songwriter and he also plays piano on the song.

Be sure to check out the videos - Timothy is performed live by "Dakota" which is what members of The Buoys are now calling themselves, it's fun to see the trash-bag fashion sensibilities of the Total Coelo girls again, Billy I rocks the house with F-F-F and the Pina Colada video done with characters from The Sims 2 is oustanding.
