Brando the DJ. In the year 1994, from out of space comes a runaway planet hurdling between the Earth and the Moon unleashing cosmic destruction. Man’s civilization is cast in ruin. 2000 years later Earth is reborn. A strange new world rises from the old. A world of savagery, super-science, and sorcery. But one man bursts his bonds to fight for justice. With his companions Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel he pits his strength, his courage, and his fabulous sun sword against the forces of evil. He is Brando the DJ!

OK, so that might not be 100% accurate. The truth is, I grew up an ambitious little smart a…uh…alec in Red Bud, Illinois. I cut my broadcasting teeth in high school when a few buddies and I got our hands on some VHS equipment and started recording and broadcasting the high school basketball games on the local cable access channel.

In college, I switched to radio and got my first paid gig at the Classic Rock station WJEQ-FM in Macomb, Illinois. They put up with me for three whole years! From there, I started my long march back home. That journey next took me to Springfield, Illinois to log three more years at hard rock station WQLZ-FM where I had the pleasure of working with the very talented Robert Fithen. Gee, I wonder what he’s up to these days?

After that, I had brief stops at Alternative KQRA-FM in Springfield, Missouri, Classic Rock WCVS-FM, in Springfield, Illinois, Top 40 WXAJ-FM in Springfield, Illinois, and Jazz (yes, I said “Jazz”) WSIE-FM in Edwardsville, Illinois. Heck, I was even an intern at KPLR-TV!

As you can see, I was starting to run out of Springfield radio stations to work for so I decided to send my stuff to the Arch. After what was clearly a lost bet of some kind, they decided to hire me and here I am three years later. In that time, I think I’ve played at least one song from every artist that has ever recorded a song EVER. Yes, it truly is “All About the Variety”, I assure you.

In my “real” job, I spend most of the day sitting in front of a computer typing words like “database”, “conference call”, and “time-management” into a little box and clicking “Send” so when Saturday night rolls around and it’s time for me to bring you another Commercial Free Saturday Night, I pretty much let all the pent up goofy and geeky go.

Hope you like it!

MJ Sells 2.3 Million Albums Since Death

According to FMQB, sales of Michael Jackson's albums just hit the 9 million mark, putting him within striking distance of the Diamond Award (10 million albums sold).  According to an Amazon.com spokesman, the online retailer, "...took more orders for Jackson CDs and MP3s in the first 24 hours after his death than we did in the previous 11 years of the Amazon music store."

Maybe that explains this.
