Casa Loma Turns 85

St Louis’ last great ballroom, the Casa Loma dates back to 1927.  This Friday (9/7) is the kickoff of its 85th anniversary with a big band dance featuring the Original Knights of Swing from 7 – 10p.  There’ll be complimentary dance lessons at 7:15 and a special proclamation from Mayor Slay at 9p.  International Latin dancing continues the festivities from 10p – 2am.  Admission is $10 or $12 if you’re under 21. 

My mom used to dance at the Casa Loma back in the day.  It used to be a BYOB establishment and she told me everyone would pour what was left in their bottle into the ice bucket at the end of the night.  They would then share a “bucket drink.”
