For years, I have been feeding my dogs veggies. They LOVE them. As a matter of fact, my Pug, Ling, will not eat her food and continuously barks at me until I get the canned carrots in her bowl.
In 2006, my dog Suki died from cancer. Doing research to keep her as healthy as I could, I found out that 50% of dogs and cats get cancer, mainly because their immune systems are so worn down from undernourishing commercial dog food. Before the 1950’s, commercial dog food didn’t really exist, and neither did the abundance of cancer in pets. People just fed their dogs table scraps, meats and veggies giving them the same needed nutrients of their humans.
The sad truth is, most commercial dog food, even the expensive stuff, is filled with very low quality ingredients; corn, animal by-products (gross, look it up) and other fillers.
Dr. Andrew Weil’s article about incorprating veggies and other “human food” into your dog’s diet is one every pet owner should read.
